Spell jars are powerful tools for manifesting intentions, but once their purpose is fulfilled, they require thoughtful disposal. Whether your jar was used for protection, love, or banishment, handling it with care respects the energy it carries and aligns with your intentions. Here’s a guide to ethically and spiritually dispose of a spell jar.
1. Determine the Energy and Purpose
The first step is to reflect on the spell’s purpose. Was it for growth, cleansing, or banishment? Understanding this helps guide the disposal method. For example:
- Positive energy (love, abundance): Dispose of the jar in a way that returns its energy to nature.
- Banishing or protection: Opt for methods that carry the energy away from you and your space.
2. Ethical and Spiritual Disposal Methods
Depending on your spell’s purpose, here are some respectful ways to dispose of your spell jar:
– Bury It
I personally do no recommend this, but I recognize that this is being used by many practitioners. For spells tied to grounding or growth, burying the jar in a garden, forest, or near a tree is ideal. Make sure to use biodegradable materials if possible, as this aligns with eco-friendly practices. Remove non-biodegradable items (like glitter or synthetic string) before burial.
– Return It to Nature
If your spell involves water energy, consider placing the contents of the jar in a flowing river or ocean. Be mindful to avoid littering—organic components only. For fire spells, you could burn the contents in a controlled and safe environment, like a fire pit.
– Break It
Breaking the jar is a symbolic way to release banishing or protection spells. Smash the jar at a crossroads or another location away from your home. Be cautious to clean up any glass to ensure safety for others.
– Dispose of It in the Trash
If the spell involved neutral or banishing energy, simply wrap the jar in a cloth to contain its energy and discard it. Before doing so, thank the jar for its service to honor its role in your work.
3. Neutralize and Cleanse
After disposing of the spell jar, cleanse yourself and your space to neutralize any residual energy. Use smoke cleansing with sage, palo santo, or a cleansing incense, or take a salt bath. This step ensures you are not carrying any lingering energy from the spell.
4. Reflect and Give Gratitude
Disposing of a spell jar is an opportunity for reflection. Take a moment to journal or meditate on the spell’s success and express gratitude for the forces that supported your intention.
