Interacting with non-human intelligences—whether they are ancient gods, shifting demons, or entities you’ve engineered in your own head—is one of the most rewarding fields of magical practice. However, most people are held back by the “Dirty F-Word”: Faith. In the mainstream, faith is just swallowing dogmatic tripe without a shred of evidence. In magick, we reclaim it as a tool.
The primary reason most meat robots fail to see results is that they approach spirits through prayer rooted in desire. When you plead or “hope” that a spirit will listen, you are performing an act of magick that reinforces the absence of what you want. You are essentially qualifying your reality to experience the state of “hoping,” which ensures the result stays forever in the future. Interaction is not about begging; it is a magical decision.
Key Principle Hoping or pleading for a spirit’s help reinforces a state of desire, which is a magical qualification of lack. To see results, you must move from “hoping a god will listen” to the “magical decision to interact.” In the Western Tradition, interaction is the qualification of the requested result. If you decide the interaction is real, it is.
1. The DIY Entity: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Familiars (Servitors)
If you don’t fancy bothering existing gods, you can build your own spirit. This is a “familiar” or “servitor”—a bespoke entity tailored to a specific job. Its lifecycle follows a four-stage process:
- Design & Definition: Determine the spirit’s specific purpose. Define its form, sound, smell, and name. Create a sigil or seal that represents its essence.
- Animation: Use visualization to “see” the entity or create a material representation (a fetish or object) to house it. Address it directly and tell it what to do.
- Strengthening & Management: Repetition increases vividness. Over time, the entity may begin to appear spontaneously or act with more autonomy.
- Dissolution: If an entity is no longer needed, or if it starts acting up and throwing crap around your gaff, you must end it. Reabsorb the energy into yourself via visualization or burn its material representation and sigil.
2. The Reality Check: Manifestation and the Prophetic Narrative
It’s vital to understand that spirits do not violate the laws of physics. If you ask a spirit for money, it isn’t going to materialise a bag of gold in your bog. Magick always takes the path of least resistance.
“Magical results do not manifest through the violation of physical laws, but through meaningful coincidences and real-world synchronicities. Success appears as a ‘real’ event—an unexpected check or a winning horse—because that is the available means of manifestation.”
As you go balls to the wall with daily practice, you’ll notice a shift. Synchronicity stops being a one-off “result” and becomes the Prophetic Narrative. You begin to “step out” of causality altogether. You’ll find that off-hand thoughts manifest without a ritual. Your world becomes saturated with meaning, and you realize that “explanation” is just a story we tell ourselves to feel safe. In the prophetic narrative, the world doesn’t happen to you; it moves with you.
3. Working with Existing Powers: The 7-Step Universal Method
When interacting with established deities or demons, treat it as a social interaction. Don’t be a dick. Treat the entity with the same respect you’d show a stranger on the street.
- Purpose: Decide exactly why you’re bothering them.
- Selection: Pick an entity fit for the job (e.g., don’t ask a god of war for help with your knitting).
- Representation: Use a statue, painting, or a vivid imagined form.
- Politeness: Be friendly and respectful. The “interaction” is the truth.
- Offering: Provide a gift in exchange for help. This is the “Economy of Sacrifice.”
- Thanks: Once the chat is over, thank the entity and say goodbye.
- Banishing: Perform a ritual to ensure the entity doesn’t linger and start messing with your environment.
4. The Economy of Sacrifice: Offerings and Communication
Magick operates on a “tit-for-tat” rule. Spirits are traded with, not commanded for free. The potency of the offering sets the tone for the relationship.
Offerings and Their Potency
| Offering Type | Notes/Warnings |
| Incense, Food, Flowers, Alcohol | Standard trade. Leave food until it smells, then bury it. Warning: If you take an offering back for yourself, you are stealing from a spirit. Don’t do it. |
| Blood or Sexual Fluids | High-octane sacrifices. Warning: Using these creates a precedent. Some spirits will eventually refuse to work for anything less. |
Communication Channels Spirits use the faculties you have available. If you can’t see visions, don’t expect a 4K manifestation. They will use:
- Divinatory Devices: Pendulums or Ouija boards to signal “yes” or “no.”
- Dreams: Ask them to visit you while you’re asleep for a clearer chat.
- Sensory Shifts: Be alert for sudden temperature drops, presences, or “off-hand” thoughts that aren’t yours.
5. Critical Safety: The Goetia
WARNING: Working with Goetic demons (from The Lesser Key of Solomon) is not a joke. These spirits are fundamentally different from the entities found in Voudon or Quimbanda; the danger is inherent to the Goetic system itself. If you ignore the traditional safeguards, they will fuck you up. Badly.
To work with the Goetia, three things are non-negotiable:
- The Names of God to compel the entity.
- The Physical Triangle to contain the spirit.
- The Protective Circle to keep your own skin safe.
6. Advanced Interaction: Possession and Invocation
For the experienced practitioner, “invocation” means letting an entity use your body as a vehicle. This is often called being “ridden.”
- Direct Request: Formally ask the entity to possess you or a designated “horse.”
- Deep Imagination/Acting: Pretend to be the entity. Adopt its form and speak as if you are the spirit until the action becomes effortless and the entity takes over.
Note: Possession is a gradual process. You need to let it happen slowly. If you get impatient or self-conscious, you’ll dispel the effect before it takes hold.
7. Magick as the Experience of Truth
Interacting with spirits isn’t about escaping into a fantasy; it’s about moving toward what is real. Magick is the art, science, and culture of experiencing truth. When you decide to interact with a non-human intelligence, you are taking responsibility for your own reality.
Stop waiting for a “correct” explanation or some external sign. Explanation leads nowhere; only experience matters. If you decide an experience is true, it is true. Magick is the ecstatic embrace of life. So, quit the hand-wringing, perform the experiment, and experience the truth for yourself.
